Who can be a camper
Camp Winnataska has a dining hall, infirmary with a registered nurse on duty (24 hours a day), canteen, gym with basketball court, canoes, stables and a new barn, activity fields, swimming pool, craft hut, ropes courses, 33-acre lake and miles of hiking trails.
Campers live in cabins with campers of the same age. Each cabin has beds with mattresses, electricity, and nearby bathhouse.
Camp Chico
Campers age 6 through 8 (finished 1st and 2nd grade) share Chico Camp, a pioneer log-cabin village sized for smaller folks. Few camps offer overnight camping for Chico-age children. Our program is fully supervised just for younger campers. The ratio of counselors to campers is 1:4.
Four cabins make up Chico Hill. Each cabin sleeps 8 campers, with 2 counselors on the bottom floor. The huts have a clothesline for wet bathing suits and towels. The bathhouse is a short walk away from the huts, with a boy's side and a girl's side for co-ed camps. Weekly directors sleep in a hut by the campers to provide close adult supervision.
Mainside Camp
Older campers (those who have finished 3rd grade and up) bunk in the rustic huts on Mainside Camp across Kelly Creek. The huts are named for Indian tribes: Seminole, Creek, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Choctaw, and Navajo. Four or five counselors stay in the cabins with the campers. Our older campers have their own type of program with several high adventure opportunities. The ratio or counselors to campers is 1:6.
LIT (Leaders in Training)
If your camper is entering 10th grade, they can choose to participate in our LIT training program and learn valuable leadership skills that will help them as a counselor in future years. You do not need to submit a separate form; they register as regular campers. The program is optional, and rising 10th graders will attend an informational meeting about being an LIT at the beginning of their camp session.
